Born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, Marie grew up in Lancaster County and the East African nation of Tanzania. She graduated from Goshen (Indiana) College in 1984 with a degree in Art. Marie worked with other potters both as an assistant and an apprentice until 1988 when she began her own business, Creations in Clay.

She has exhibited her work in various parts of Indiana and in the traveling exhibit “Visions of Shalom: Mennonite Artists and the Way of Peace.”
