Jane was born in 1953 in Elkhart, Indiana, but did quite
a bit of moving in her early years when her family spent time in areas as diverse as
Alaska, Puerto Rico, and England. She attended Hesston (Kansas) College and graduated with
a B.A. in Art from Goshen College, Goshen, Indiana.
Immediately after graduating, she worked as a full-time potter for Sauder Museum in
Archbold, Ohio. The five years at the museum instilled a love of the late 1800s and
influenced her decision to reproduce pottery of that time period.
She is now self-employed, running a busy mail order business for her miniatures, and
attending about 15 shows a year.
All the stoneware is wheelthrown and has gone through two separate firings. After the
initial firing. Jane uses a calligraphy pen dipped in cobalt stain to produce the
traditional slip trailed appearance. Once decorated, the pieces are dipped in a clear
glaze and fired to 2350°F.
