| Dick was born in Elkhart, Indiana in 1952. He graduated from
Goshen (Indiana) College in 1976 with a degree in religion. He also studied at Associated
Mennonite Biblical Seminaries, Elkhart, for three years. Dick began working with clay as
a student. In 1981, he became a full-time production potter, and is now established at The
Old Bag Factory, Goshen.
He has done several solo shows and exhibited prize-winning work in numerous group
shows.
Lehman's pottery is handmade and has been fired to nearly 2400°F in the fuel-efficient
kiln at Dicks studio. Natural materials and nearly 24 hours of intense heat and
flame produce the stony ruggedness, durability, and warmth so characteristic of fine
stoneware and porcelain. |
